Congratulations to Dr. Jill Seaman, recipient of the MacArthur Fellows Award, 2009

Dr. Jill Seaman, the Founder and Director of the Sudan Medical Relief Project under CrossCurrents International Institute, was selected on September 22, 2009 as an MacArthur Fellow. Dr. “Jill’ was one of 24 newly named MacArthur Fellows.

The MacArthur Fellows Program, sponsored by The MacArthur Foundation in Chicago, awards unrestricted fellowships to talented individuals who have shown extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction. There are three criteria for selection of Fellows: exceptional creativity, promise for important future advances based on a track record of significant accomplishment, and potential for the fellowship to facilitate subsequent creative work. The nomination and selection process is anonymous. The newly selected Fellows have no idea that they are being considered until they receive a congratulatory phone call that they have been selected. The award carries an unrestricted $500,000 grant to support the work of the individuals.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DR. “JILL” FOR HER AMAZING WORK OVER 20 YEARS IN SOUTH SUDAN.

"I like to believe that people, in the long run, are going to do more to promote peace than our governments. Indeed, I think that people want peace so much that one of these days governments had better get out of the way and let them have it."
